Join Kiwis Steph and Pete for a lesson or two in Swing Dancing. What is Swing Dancing? It’s a collection of dances from the 1920s-1940s including Lindy hop and Charleston. Read more about it here.
Level 1 – Absolute beginners class | 7pm – 8pm
A drop in beginners class — anyone can attend any time. No partner required. We cover all the basics from scratch (20s Charleston, 30s Charleston, 6 and 8 count Lindy Hop).
Level 2 – Intermediate class | 8.10pm – 9.10pm
A class for improver dancers who are wanting to move on from the basics and learn more about musicality, lead/follow technique, rhythm, etc… If you have some experience of 6 and 8 count Lindy Hop and some Charleston then you should definitely think about jumping in.
Level 3 – Advanced class | 9.15pm – 10.15pm
A more advanced class for dancers who are comfortable on the social dance floor and have been swing dancing for a minimum of about one year. You will be looking to hone your technique and make improvements to the quality of your dancing, not just learn new steps. You must have a very strong grasp of the basics and be prepared to spend lots of time working on ideas like momentum, pulse, lead/follow connection, rhythm and musicality. We will be using the focus on technique to teach hardcore ninja moves as well though! There is no rush to jump into this class and it is not a good idea to jump in before you are ready. If you are unsure whether you should be in this class then please come and ask us!
Our class takes place in the St. Aloysius church hall. Check out the map below and to see how to get there.
