World's Largest Charleston Dance Record Attempt

World’s Largest Charleston Record Attempt

Do you want to to break a world record?

This is a great opportunity to do something as a big London swing dance community while raising money for a great cause.

When we first considered it, the World Record was held by Sydney with 319 dancers but that record was broken only recently in Bexhill, East Sussex with 503 people.  So it’s an even bigger challenge and we need you all involved!

Everyone is welcome regardless of their level of dancing and we’ll be inviting the wider swing community to join in on Sunday 11th October at Spitalfields E1 on Lamb Street from 11:30am – 2pm. Our very own Ben and Robyn have choreographed a super simple routine that has been sent to all our venues to teach – check out when you can learn the routine and get involved here.

We’ll be collecting a voluntary donation of £2 on the day which will go to Guy’s Cancer Centre Appeal.

We’ve measured the space – there’s room for everyone so make sure to invite your friends, house mates, parents and all and sundry!

Register here!

Why register? By registering you’ll be able to receive important information about our attempt via email, including updates and the routine videos! You’ll also help us know how many people are planning to help us break the record.

How do you break a World Record?

It’s not easy but we like a good challenge! Guinness World Records have all sorts of rules around the kind of dancing we can do, how long we need do it for and how we count everyone involved.

The Rules:
When it comes to the actual dancing here’s what counts:
– The music must be the traditional accompaniment to the style of dancing – well, we think we can manage that.
– The dance must last a minimum of 5 minutes and everyone has to participate for the full length to be counted – so just keep dancing!
– The dance must be choreographed and synchronised so no free-styling – Ben and Robyn are on the case!
– The choreography must be executed with a high level of proficiency – we know you can do that! Stay tuned for lessons on the routine.
– The number of people who are hoping to constitute the record must all be well versed in the dance moves – practice, practice, practice!
– All participants must be performing the same routine simultaneously – we’ll have instructors there on the day to follow, don’t worry!

The team here are busy planning how to make it happen. We just need you to spread the word!
