All About the Blues
Sunday May 10, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 6:30 pm£22 – £40
A day of learning all about the blues with Pippa and Alain – workshops for beginners and beyond.
12:00 – 15:00: Learn to Dance in a Day… Blues!
This three hour workshop (with some short breaks) is perfect for anyone who has never danced Blues before or indeed, has never danced before. In these classes you will learn about movement that is fundamental to Blues dance. We will explore the most important elements of what makes Blues dancing AMAZING and we will give you enough tools to get you out on the social floor.
15:30 – 18:30: Blues dancing… the next step!
For you to be able to enjoy this workshop you need to have done the earlier workshop above (either the same day or previously). This is for those of us who are already enjoying Blues and want to take their knowledge even further. In these classes, we will concentrate on topics such as points of connection, the importance of play, the Blues conversation, musicality and we will even throw in some great flash and trash for your dancing enjoyment.
You can do one or both of the workshops, just book ahead as we often sell out!
What is blues dancing?
Like swing dance, Blues dance evolved from African rhythms and movements. However blues dancing was never widely practiced as a social or performance dance; it developed in smoky juke joints and at blues house parties and rent parties, giving it a more intimate feel.
Blues dance is all about interpreting and expressing the music. Many aspects of Blues dancing such as call and response, emotional intensity, and tension and release are directly related to the music. If you love blues music you’ll love blues dancing!
You can see blues dancing in action in our video below.
