Jazz FM and Swing Patrol Have A Ball Inspiring Dancing to Jazz

  • Jazz FM – the home of jazz, soul and blues – is partnering with Swing Patrol, the UK’s biggest swing dance community, on its evening of danceable vintage jazz at The Camden Centre, Kings Cross from 7pm on Saturday 24th January 2015.

The Swing Patrol Winter Ball will have numerous taster lessons throughout the evening delivered by Swing Patrol’s professional teaching team. The main lesson starts at 7.15pm in The Camden Centre’s ballroom before the teachers move to a dedicated “Swing Starters” room to offer more personal tuition to new dancers. Experienced “taxi” dancers will also be on hand around the main hall to teach, help and encourage as many people as possible to experience the full joy of dancing to swing music, even if it’s their very first time on a dance floor.

European Swing Dance champions, the Swing Patrol Dixie Dinahs will inspire the crowd with one of their award winning routines, and a new dance troupe – the Swing Patrol Brat Pack – will be performing for the first time.

Jazz FM will be there on the night and will be promoting the Swing Patrol Winter Ball to its listeners across all its platforms in the next few weeks.

Bob Sinfield, presenter of Jazz FM’s dedicated vintage jazz, swing and big band programme, Peppermint Candy, said, “Dancing to jazz is such a pleasure. Since Swing Patrol launched in the UK five years ago thousands of people have been able to enjoy the style, energy and fun of swing dancing. It’s a great way for people to discover incredible jazz music for the first time. I’m really looking forward to the Swing Patrol Winter Ball and having a go myself.”

Scott Cupit, Managing Director of Swing Patrol said, “People attending Swing Patrol’s lessons learn a new activity, discover vintage fashions and meet new people – but many also discover music from artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Lionel Hampton and Louis Armstrong for the first time. Pointing them to Jazz FM enables them to hear music from jazz legends as well as new jazz and blues music selected by the UK’s finest presenters. It’s exciting to have Jazz FM partner with us for this event.”

Doors open to the Swing Patrol Winter Ball at 7.00pm, Saturday 24th January 2015 at The Camden Centre, Town Hall, Judd Street, London, WC1H 9JE.
