Swing Patrol Dalston St Marks will be closed on Monday 04 June 2012 – the Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend.  We’ll be back in swingin’ style the week after for some great Six Count Lindy Hop!

Can you believe it? This June, Swing Patrol Queens Park will turn one year old. To celebrate, we will be doing something special. Keep the 7th June free for a fun-filled evening.

Improvers’ Class (8.15pm) With all the excitement of the London Swing Festival approaching, James and Gen will be teaching a floor craft and awareness class. This is essential material for all of us and will help you to have better and more enjoyable dances!!

As usual our beginners’ class starts at 7pm for 1 hour followed by our second (level 1.5) class at 8.15 pm for 1 hour followed by free social dancing for all until 10.30 pm.

Our beginners’ class starts at 7pm for one hour. If you have never ever danced a step before then do not worry, our Swing Patrol Highbury 7pm class assumes you are fresh to any sort of dancing and everything will be broken down  into the simplest of moves.

Wonderful for the total beginner to learn Swing Dancing with ease, confidence and fun…

We hope you had a great weekend and went out social dancing. If not – next weekend is the time to get on the social floor at the Swing Den – a social night especially for beginners. It’s really the main point of learning swing dancing, so if you’re not doing it yet, give it a try! It will be great preparation for the London Swing Festival at the end of the month!

Level 1:

You guys did *amazingly* and your swing-outs were really progressing. Please keep practising them! We’ll return to more swing-out and 8-beat stuff soon.

In Level 1 this week:

We’re starting 4 weeks of 30′s/40′s partnered Charleston! This is one of the most fun and easy to enjoy parts of Lindy Hop, and will be a nice reward for those of you who have worked so hard on learning swing-outs over the last four weeks. Incorporating hand-to-hand, tandem, and side-by-side Charleston partnering styles, it’s a whole universe of swing dancing all on its own. We’ll be learning all the basics over the next four weeks.

In Level 2, last week you guys mentioned you’d like to learn more entries into hand-to-hand Charleston, so we’ll continue the Charleston style with three easy-to-remember-or-follow-while-sweating-on-the-social-dance-floor entries and a few variations while you’re in there.

A very  big WELCOME to this weeks new students and WELCOME back to those who have returned for more BIMS fun.

THE FIRST CLASS – Level 1

In this class we started by working on our Blues basic movement with a changes of weight with a pulse. After learning our basic movement we then looked at changing the timing of the rhythm, a tool we can use to respond to the music. We then learnt a fun walking and turning move. In this move the lead opened the follow to a side by side position. We then talked forward for 4 steps and on the 4th the lead turned himself and the follow in toward one another to change direction. We then walked together in the other direction with a hand hold connection and after 3 steps changed direction once again. Then to add another layer of difficulty we added a full turn or double turn for the follow.

THE SECOND CLASS – Level 2

This was a fun and tricky class where we started with a turn for the follows that lead them into a contra-body backward walk. We did three steps into a lunge. The lead then brought the follow back on weight and turned them under their arm. Then using this momentum they turned themselves and then the follow again. This was a very fluid and smooth turning movement.

How to redeem your Groupon voucher?

Once you have received your Groupon voucher by email, please forward the PDF voucher to Fiona at info@swingpatrol.co.uk.

Fiona will redeem your voucher and help you arrange collection of your card from one of our classes.  You will need to let her know which class you wish to attend on which date.  Check our Timetable for class locations and days.

You cannot collect your class card without first redeeming your voucher using the Voucher Code and the Security Code.

You do not need to attend class on the night you collect your card, so you can collect it before or after class. However, it does need to be collected before 28th April.

Processing time

The actual verificiation process is quite quick if you send us the right information.  (your voucher and the class you wish to attend/collect the card from)

However, please bear in mind that you are not the only person contacting us and we need to answer each email.  We will endeavour to get back to you in the same day that you contact us.

We also suggest giving us at least 1 day notice of which class you wish to attend to collect your card.

Attending class

Your Groupon class card is valid at all beginner classes (except Dalston Passing Clouds). Normally our beginner classes are drop in classes and require no booking.  However, you will need to book your FIRST class through Fiona as above.  This is to arrange collection of your card.

Once you have your Groupon class card you can then use it to attend any beginner class (except Dalston Passing Clouds) at any time – no need to book.  All of our beginner classes are drop in classes, rather than courses, so you do not need to take them consecutively. You can attend more than once a week, or just once a month – and at different locations. It’s up to you – whatever suits your timetable.

Your class card will be valid until 28th September 2012.

Beginner classes only

Your Groupon class card is only valid for Beginner/Level 1 classes.  It is not valid for Level 1.5,  Level 2 or Level 3 classes.

If you choose to attend any level class other than Beginner/Level 1 then you will be required to pay full price.

Your Groupon class card is also not valid for our weekend workshops or our social events (Swing Den, Swing Pit, Red Rhythm, NW6 Swing or Book Club Blues).

Important Notes

* Collection must take place before 28th April 2012.

* Class cards are only valid until 28th September 2012.

* All class locations and times are listed under our Class Timetable.

* Groupon class cards are not valid for Workshops or Social Dancing.

* Groupon class cards are not valid for Dalston Passing Clouds on Wednesdays.

Replacement cards

We are not responsible for lost or stolen cards.  Replacement cards will incur an admin fee of £10.

Please email info@swingpatrol.co.uk to arrange a replacement card.
