Brat Pack are auditioning!
There are 8 to 10 spots available with one of our premier performance-based Lindy Hop troupes – Brat Pack, which is one of several Lindy Hop dance troupes under the Swing Patrol umbrella.
Dance Styles: Lindy Hop / Charleston
Troupe Leaders: Moe Sakan and Michael Jagger
Training: Thursday evenings at the Bishopsgate Institute 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Members of the troupe will still be developing as Lindy Hoppers but already will have an insatiable appetite for learning and a great love of the history of the dance. You will have a passion to perform, share and get in front of people. You will be expected to practice choreography outside of troupe time and be part of troupe life which includes performing and being part of the team.
Aerials, solo Charleston, the strolls and a love of jam sessions are compulsory for this troupe. Troupe life will include a lot of technique and focus on your foundational skills.
You should be a competent social dancer that can easily swing out and be comfortable leading and following through different patterns. You will be obsessed by this dance and will have probably been in class for at least 24 – 36 months, accompanied by the humility to know that this barely scratches the surface of an understanding of the dance.
Your work ethic, your attendance for troupe sessions and your availability to perform at gigs will form part of your 6 month assessment, but the main criteria will be your dancing as well as your capacity and willingness to apply your learning. Troupe life will be fun and full of laughter, but when you work… you will work hard. When you are not performing to the satisfaction of the troupe leadership you will be advised, as this will be a very honest place to learn, dance and develop.
Currently, the troupe’s focus is on preparing to perform and compete at Savoy Cup in Montpellier, France in early April of 2019. There may be opportunities to perform prior to that engagement, and certainly afterwards as we head into the spring and summer months.
Troupe payments are a fee of £12 subscription, paid weekly.
Tuesday, December 18th from 6.30pm – 8.30pm in the Upper Hall at Bishopsgate Institute
Format: If you get a confirmation of an audition spot simply turn up and be 15 minutes early. You will be given some partnered Lindy Hop choreography and then evaluated on your execution. A short interview may happen also.
No one on the night will be too scary, and we would love to see you in the auditions!”
